Favorite things...

I love dropping in on people.. I had time yesterday to pay a visit to Gerald Griffin a former mail carrier in Effingham, S.C. Griffin's house is a popular stop on Highway 52, for more than 20 years Griffin has been planting Zinnias and Petunias in his front yard for people to enjoy as they drive by. "So many people from Lake City and Kingstree stop and tell me how much they appreciate the flowers." says Griffin of his many visitors. "It really makes their day." Griffin saves the Zinnia seeds from year to year and every spring around the 10th of April he plants the three rows of flowers, "I'll bet there are thousands of plants in there, three or four different varieties, but I don't remember the names of all of them. This year there are a lot of pinks and reds, I'd like to see more white and yellow ones but you can never tell what you are going to get from year to year."

One of the many things I love about my job and the editors here at the Morning News is the amount of trust they have in me and the amount of freedom I am given as a result of that trust. I brought this quick little story about a man and his flowers back to the paper and they found the room for 4 photos..

amazing.. lucky.. exactly where I am supposed to be.
