and someone has to not win

and that makes me sad.

Win some

I have always been some what of a curse shooting baseball championships...but I have really great luck with football.
After 5 straight 12 hour days I got to cover Dillon winning their second straight state championship. I shot it last year, and this years win was so much more successfull for me. It was a great way to wrap up another football season.
And the best part, for me anyway, is that I smiled all day long. It is days like today that make me remember why I love this job so much, why community journalism is so important and why the crazy long days are so very worth it. Congrats to Dillon on another great year, I am honored to have followed this team for the last two years, and honored to be a community journalist.

I got one I like !!!

This year's football has been tough. Shooting stills and video on deadline for both TV and the newspaper is a huge challenge and I often feel like I am horrible at both. Tonight I proved myself wrong.

Budget Fall Fashion

So I know nothing about fashion, or fashion photography, soooo. when our feature team proposed a budget fall fashion page (using all resale clothing) I jumped a the chance to do it.

The long and the short of it is, I knew there would be many challenges...
1. We at the Morning News have 1 (!) light, well we have three, all broken, never to be fixed. Lesson one:  do the best you can with what you have.

2. I had to shop for this ALONE... did I mention I know nothing about fashion? If it's not jeans and a black shirt with heals, I don't get it.
Lesson two: read a fashion magazine for 2 minutes... vintage is in, so are interesting fabrics and textures, big belts, brown, gray, and black, and big jewelry.

3. There are a TON of places that sell resale everything... Good Will being my first choice as I never buy new anything. Fortunately I wrote a story about the first Good Will to open in the Pee Dee not to long ago.
Lesson three. Keep your contacts list, you never know when someone will help you

4. Models (who work for wings and beer) are hard to find.
Lesson four. Have really amazing friends that will do anything for you, are willing to laugh at themselves and at you... and are happy to be on the cover of the local weekly entertainment magazine.

And finally the results... and Lesson Five. The most fun I have had in a long time. Different, Challenging, and full of laughter.... Happy Wednesday.
